Each type of poker is different, so it’s difficult to provide hard-and-fast strategy tips and rules to follow for every variation, but we’ll go over some basics to help you get going no matter what type of poker you’re playing.
Pay attention to player patterns – As you play poker you should always be watching all the other players you’re up against. When you learn to read these players you’ll know when they have good hands and when they have bad. Learning to do this allows you to bet more money and win more overall.
Bet the winners and a few losers – While you obviously want to bet on as many winners as you have in your hand, you also want to bet on some of the lower quality hands. If you bet on a mixture of good and bad hands other players will have trouble deciding when you have a quality hand and when you’re bluffing. It makes it easier for you to win more money while keeping your opponents in the dark.
Know the poker hand values – The very first thing that you need to do, before anything else, is learn all the values of the different poker hands. You need to know what hand beats what. It’s important to know whether a flush or a straight is going to be triumphant. It’s also important to know what card combinations make up the winning hands in general. Take some time to learn all this information before you play for real money at all.
Learn the rules for the variation you play – Before you try out Omaha, Texas Hold’em 7 Card Stud or any other variation that you want to play, make sure that you know all the rules of the game. By taking the time to learn the rules you’ll have a better chance of succeeding, sure you’ll have to study a bit to learn what you’re talking about, but doing so increases your chances and can really pay off.
