Aliens Pokies Review

The original Alien movie came out back in 1979 and most of its sequels followed in the '80s and '90s, but this slots title is anything but dated. With cutting edge graphics and a jackpot of over half a million coins, Aliens has plenty going for it.

With 15 paylines and two bonus rounds, there are lots of ways to win. So many, in fact, that the game can seem a little bit complicated. But we think it's well worth sticking with Aliens, and we'll tell you why.

Theme

The theme of Aliens loosely follows the plot of the Alien movie franchise starring Sigourney Weaver. Players take on the role of a marine on board a spaceship under attack by Aliens, all of which is set up is a great little cinematic intro.

The game itself appears to take place on a type of space age computer console, complete with rotating holographic projectors and flickering video feeds from outposts in deep space. It has to be said that the whole thing looks great, while authentic sound effects and a tense orchestral overture help to immerse you in the action.

The bonus rounds feature headset footage in the style of an FPS (first person shooter) videogame, and this too really draws players into the game in a way that most pokies don't even come close to.

Gameplay

We'll just come right out and say it: Aliens is a ton of fun to play.

There are no 9, 10, Q, J, K or A symbols here; the reels are full of Aliens, facehuggers and creepy eggs instead. This can take a little bit of getting used to, but the paytable is only a click away and it doesn't take long to figure out which symbols you should be rooting for.

As well as chasing wins during standard play because it means more money in the bank, players also want to rack up as many wins as possible because it means multipliers in standard play and, after enough wins, a trip to the bonus round.

In the bonus round, players traverse a claustrophobic corridor battling aliens with a series of multipliers that correspond to the value of the wins that brought them there from standard play. After each spin, players are randomly awarded more ammo (or not) to help them fight closer to the Queen's lair.

Make it there and another mini-game determines how big of an extra lump sum players win as they do battle with the Queen. As we mentioned above, there's a total jackpot of 570,000 coins to play for in the bonus rounds.

Added Value

With many pokies, you never know when you're going to be heading to a bonus round. While the same is true of Aliens, you at least have some idea of whether or not you still have to rack up several wins before you get there. In that respect, it's easier to drop in and out of Aliens without feeling like you're going to miss out.

Like in so many other games, the most value of Aliens comes from the bonus rounds. Even without getting to the Queen, it's possible to rake in tens of thousands of coins in the first bonus round – we know, because we managed to do just that.

The only Aussie players we think should be avoiding this one are those who are playing late at night and are worried this game might give them nightmares!

Summary

This isn't exactly the newest slots title on the market anymore, but it's certainly still one of the best looking. With unique reel icons, a space age user interface and multiple bonus rounds, plus a jackpot worth taking on a facehugger for, this is one slot that has really stood the test of time in a big way. Actually reaching the bonus rounds can get a little bit frustrating, especially as there's a learning curve to figuring out how much each symbol will win you, but otherwise this is a truly outstanding title.
