Let's Go Fish'n Pokies Review

Surprisingly, this isn't the only fishing themed title out there – Microgaming released the beautiful Alaskan Fishing a few years ago – but, as far as we can recall, this is the first game that brought angling and pokies together.

As gorgeous as Alaskan Fishing is to look at, it always feels like most wins during standard play are pretty insignificant. We take a look at Let's Go Fish'n to see if things are any different in Aristocrat's take on fishing.

Theme

Let's get something out of the way right now – Let's Go Fish'n is nowhere near as nice to look at as Alaskan Fishing. But the cartoony visuals, including a fisherman who looks a lot like Alan Partridge, aren't without their charm.

Other reel icons include a seagull, fishing rod, a Let's Go Fish'n sign and s worm who looks awfully chipper despite being impaled on a hook...The usual A, K, Q and J fill out the remaining reels.

There's no music during standard play and the sound effects used come straight from Aristocrat's sound bank used for other games. That's a bit of a shame as this is the sort of pokie that could really have benefitted from some ambient angling sounds – waves breaking, seagulls squawking etc. – to improve immersion.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Let's Go Fish'n is your typical Aristocrat fare – 5 reels, 3 rows, and a scatter thrown into the mix. There's no wild symbol during standard play, which comes as a disappointment, but the game's bonus round definitely makes up for that.

The bonus round in Let's Go Fish'n is very much like that of Where's The Gold – players select a character to fish for wilds and free spins, with anywhere between 3 and 10 free spins up for grabs and up to 3 gold wilds available.

In our Where's The Gold review we sung the praises of its bonus round and, because this is a re-skinned clone of that bonus round, we'll be doing much the same here.

Even though the base jackpot when playing with the maximum number of credits is just over 6,000 coins, the potential to win big is DEFINITELY there in this bonus round. Get 10 spins with 3 wild golds and it's easily possible to come away with 10x your starting bankroll, or even more.

Added Value

In terms of gameplay, there's very little to recommend Let's Go Fishing over a slot like Where's The Gold...because they're pretty much exactly the same game!

However, if you find Where's The Gold's graphics a bit childish or the "yeehaw!"s (be warned: there's a very similar noise here when you trigger a bonus round...) every time you boot up the game a bit irritating, this one is a good choice.

The fantastic bonus round means that we'd definitely recommend this over the majority of other Aristocrat slots, even if this one doesn't have a wild and only offers 25 paylines. You may not necessarily win much during standard play, but there's always a very good chance of landing big bucks when you reach the bonus round.

Summary

Let's Go Fish'n may not be as attractive as Microgaming's Alaskan Fishing, but a reasonably large jackpot and a bonus round that plays much like the fantastic Where's The Gold's mean that this game has plenty of appeal. With no wilds during standard play and a fairly run of the mill 25 paylines, wins may not come as often as you'd like but this is still a fun little game that you might enjoy if you love the gameplay of Where's The Gold but fancy some different visuals and sounds. Not a perfect game, though keen anglers might think so, but the bonus round can still result in some very big wins.
